- Description:
Audio Devices was a quality American brand of reel to reel tapes in the 1950s through the 1970s. Their tapes were often used for professional recordings in the 1950s and 1960s and had a great reputation. In 1972 they were purchased by Capitol Records. In 1970 the two joined forces to release the Capitol Sound Tape, their high performance tape in a series of 6 “Beautiful Boxes”. The performance is rated at type 2 “Low Noise”, similar to Scotch 203 / 212 and other low noise formulations developed at this time. Later this formulation was released as Capitol’s “High Performance Tape” A full line of tape sizes and lengths were available in SP, LP, DP and TP versions. Notes:
- This is a formula that has withstood the test of time. It is amazing to consider that you can make a high quality recordings on a 50 year old tape, but this is indeed possible.
- The performance of this formula is high as is the durability. By this time Audio Devices had over 20 years to perfect their formulas and the quality shows here. You cannot go wrong with this tape for your older machine. On new machines, set for bias to “Standard” or “Low Range” for best results.
- Tapes of this vintage have a tendency to shed oxide more than modern tapes, but the shedding on these tapes is relatively low.
- Available Refurbished: Yes, we offer these in 6-packs in 1200 ft (SP) and 1800 ft (LP) as well as DP and TP versions in single packs.
