BASF LGS is a series of Standard (Type 1) reel to reel tapes that were manufactured from 1958 to 1969. With a PVC backing, these tapes are known for their quality, longevity, and output stability. Notes:
- This is a formula that has withstood the test of time. It is amazing to consider that you can make a high quality recordings on a 40 or 50 year old tape, but this is indeed possible.
- Tapes of this vintage have a tendency to shed oxide more than modern tapes. This is not a sign that this tape is degrading, it should be considered normal. BASF Tapes of this vintage shed about the same as other tapes from this vintage.
- The general quality of these tapes increased over their production run as general improvements were made, particularly with oxide shedding and smoothness.
- These tapes came in two series, one with a blue three window reel and the newer series with a solid black two window reel. Both were supplied with high quality plastic clamshell boxes.
