- Description:
Denon’s DX 550B / 1100B / 1101B is a shiny brown oxide type 4 (+3 low noise / high output tape) with back coating. It was sold as a top of the line master tape. The performance us similar to Maxell’s UDXL/XL, TDK’s GX Series or the Sony ULH.
- This is a formula that has withstood the test of time. Even with back coating, these Denon tapes still hold their quality and can be used today, as it does not exhibit sticky-shed or squealing.
- All 7″ tapes used a double window shaded plastic reel, 10.5″ reels had the ubiquitous 3-window metal reel design with the DENON logo. The tape has a slightly shiny brown surface.
- Only the LP tape thickness was made, with a 1800 ft (550m) version on 7″ reels and a 3600 ft (1100m) version on 10.5″ metal reels. To our knowledge, they never produced an SP or DP tape so it’s LP only.
- The DX1101B seems to be a newer version of the DX1100B, no discernable differences can be made visually, and the specs are similar
- Available Refurbished: Yes, you can buy refurbished reels of the DXs in our store, if we have them at all. Not many were sold – especially in North America, so they are hard to find.
