Audio Devices manufactured Audiotape, a quality American brand of reel to reel tapes in the 1950s through the 1970s. Their tapes were often used for professional recordings in the 1950s and 1960s and had a great reputation.  “Formula 15” is their low noise tape formulation (Type 2) designed to compete with the Scotch 203. These tapes were extremely well made and hold up well today. They were available both in Acetate and Mylar versions. Notes:

• This is a formula that has withstood the test of time, with excellent performance today
• Performance is similar to (if not better than) the Scotch 203 series, and was one of the first Low Noise tapes ever produced. 
• We highly recommend the 1277 (Mylar SP) and 1867 (Mylar LP) as excellent quality Low Noise (type 2) tapes, in league with the Scotch 202/203 and Ampex 434/434. These are excellent choices for your older machine. 
• These tapes can be identified by their shiny gray color that is similar in appearance to their Scotch and Ampex countertypes. 
• Audiotape (and later Capitol) were famous for their “Easy C-Slot Reel” to make tape threading easier. 
• These tapes have very low oxide shedding like the Scotch 203 and can be considered to be “modern” tapes. They are highly recommended for your older machine, and even later machines biased for the Scotch 203, or “low noise” setting.
