The BASF LPR35 and DPR26 LH were high performance +3 (low noise high output – Type 4) reel to reel tapes that were manufactured from 1971 to 1984. This is a very high quality formulation that was very popular in Germany as a high-end consumer tape. This tape is also known for it’s excellent quality, with flat frequency response and excellent stability and tape to head contact. Advanced R&D made sure this tape would last a long time, even when stored in adverse conditions – and even with back coating.

• This is a formula that has withstood the test of time. It is amazing to consider that you can make a high quality recordings on a 40 or 50 year old tape, but this is indeed possible.
• The type of the tape – “LPR35 LH” – is printed at the beginning of the green leader, identifying the tape type. The “35” denotes the micron thickness – 35 – signifying LP (long play) thickness. The DPR26 version has the 26 micron “DP” thickness with a slightly thinner oxide coating (10 instead of 11 micron) which is customary for BASF DP tapes.  That tape is 2100ft on a 7″ reel, or 4200 feet on a 10.5″ reel. There is no SP version of this tape.
• This tape is a candidate for one of the best formulations ever made, and has excellent winding properties.
