Audio Magnetics was a popular American brand of low cost reel to reel tapes. In addition to their own brand, they often private labeled their tapes for many companies, including department stores. Most of this tape falls under the standard type 1 category – regular brown oxide tapes.
The quality of their tapes is mixed, with many formulations suffering from higher oxide shedding and in general lower performance. There were many formulations that were usable, however, and ongoing forensic analysis at Reel to Reel warehouse will help to uncover some of the mysteries here with these tape formulations.
Already we have identified brands such as Korvette’s, Concert Master, Pic Pac, Lafayette, some Concertape and possibly DAK that were all brands made by Audio Magnetics.
